Work began on the Santa Creu Cathedral in 1298 and was paid for by donations from medieval guild associations and other city groups. It is mainly Gothic in style but as its construction took more than six centuries, it also has Romanesque elements (Santa Lucía Chapel) and neo-Gothic features (the main facade and tower). This construction was dedicated to Santa Eulàlia, the co-patron saint of Barcelona.
