The Palau de la Generalitat was built as the permanent site of the Catalan Parliament, established in 1283 and known as "the first parliament of Europe". Today it is the seat of the Government of Catalonia. The inside of the building contains elements in a pure Gothic style, as well as examples of flamboyant Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque that make it well worth a visit.
